Constructed by world-renowned designers Robert Trent Jones Jr (The Old Course), Greg Norman (Moonah) and Tom Doak (Gunnamatta, formerly the Ocean Course by Peter Thomson), the Club’s three world-class layouts at Cape Schanck are complemented by the Long Island Course at Frankston – the sandbelt’s hidden gem – to create a membership offer of distinction.

As well as access to four world-class golf courses, all ranked within Australia’s top 50, members enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, clubhouse services, and reciprocal rights with other private interstate and overseas clubs.

The National’s natural landscapes and scenery are amongst the most dramatic and spectacular that one could experience anywhere in the world of golf.

Our History

The National Golf Club was launched to the public in a hospitality tent at Huntingdale Golf Club during The Masters tournament of February 1985. The foundations of the Club were laid by great visionaries who were not only astute business people but also pure golfing enthusiasts.

The original course at Cape Schanck was opened for play in March 1988 and by 1993 all 750 memberships in The National had been sold.

In 1996, the then Chairman had a chance telephone conversation with the owner of the adjoining property, a spectacular piece of natural links land set amongst the dunes, with the coastline to Port Phillip Heads in the background. The subsequent land purchase eventually led to the expansion of The National with an additional two 18-hole courses being constructed and opened for play by the end of the year 2000.

In November 2014, a vote was put to the members of The National Golf Club and Frankston’s Long Island Country Club to merge and form one Club. Both groups of members voted in favour of the proposal and, as a result, The National Golf Club became the only membership in the country comprising four quality courses.
